UUSB honors the inherent worth and dignity of all transgender beloveds. To that end we have made it a priority to celebrate important dates for the trans community. Typically each year we either have an event for the Trans Day of Remembrance in November, or we host an event for the Trans Day of Visibility in March.

Depending on the specifics of that year’s event, we have a variety of volunteer opportunities for folks who would like to get involved. Typically at least a month in advance of the event we will have a planning meeting that everyone is invited to. Specific volunteering roles that we will need filled for the event typically include:

  • Safety Team – The UUSB Safety Team is a group of folks that work together to offer additional safety support at various events. Because this is a public facing event that serves queer folks, we usually have a few Safety Team Members on site. Exactly what these volunteers are doing during the event varies depending on the particular risk assesment for that event.
  • Volunteer Coordinator – Depending on what is needed for the speaking portion of the event, there may be volunteers who will be participating in readings or other rituals. We need someone who is in charge of coordinating all those activities.
  • Coffee & Snack Team – Usually these events offer some beverages and food after the event. We need volunteers to help provide the snacks, run our coffee service, and assist with cleanup afterward.
  • Fundraising Coordinator – We typically collect funds for these events in honor of a non-profit that supports trans lives. The fundraising coordinator is in charge of gathering any sponsorships and writing the check request for the nonprofit.
  • Greeters – If there is a portion of the event that involves having a handout, we need greeters to welcome folks in and give them those materials.
