The Lifespan Learning team is dedicated to enriching the mental lives of our members and friends. We have a variety of educational opportunities throughout the year. You can learn about them here:

  • Adult Forum – Most Sundays 9am – 10:15am in the conference room
  • Great Decisions – An 8 session program prepared by the Foreign Policy Association. It is typically held in February, March, and April each year
  • UUA Common Read – A denomination wide program where UUs read the same text and engage with it in a variety of different ways.

In addition to these regularly scheduled programs, the Lifespan Learning Committee also sometimes hosts pop-up learning events.

Recently we have explored The Sum of Us: What Racism Costs Everyone and How We Can Prosper Together by Heather McGhee and Awe: The New Science of Everyday Wonder and How It Can Transform Your Life by Dacher Keltner.

We recently screen a film called MY FATHER’S NAME (myfathersname.com). It is a 20-minute documentary that tells the story of one woman’s attempt to uncover her father’s participation in a lynching, hold her family accountable, and reckon with what she inherited. She wrestles with the deep conflict between the father she loved and the violence he was connected to — while coming to terms with her own unconscious racism. Through one woman’s deeply personal story, the film opens space for reflection on whiteness, historical responsibility, and what it means to seek repair.
