Bodies come in all shapes and sizes; however, we live in a society where some bodies are seen as “bad” while others are upheld as “good.” We will discuss the history of the pursuit of the “ideal” body size and its rebranding in the name of health and wellness. This pursuit harms everyone and gives permission to deny the human dignity of those who fall outside the bounds of what body size is deemed acceptable. We will discuss how this, often dismissed, but very real form of oppression impacts all of us. Topics covered will include intentional weightloss, fatphobia, racism, and diet culture.
This service will be multiplatform–we’ll gather in person and online. However many of us are together in the sanctuary, you can definitely find us at First Zuumitarian: https://uuma.zoom.us/j/4774349822
