Mark your calendar for one of UUSB’s favorite annual traditions! Our Annual Retreat returns on Saturday, August 23 and Sunday, August 24 at The Res (13950 Scout Lane, Mishawaka, IN 46544).
Some of the most meaningful moments in congregational life happen outside the walls of our building. Our Annual Retreat is a chance to slow down, spend time together, and enjoy the beauty of the natural world. Whether you come for the entire weekend or just part of it, we hope you’ll join us for this special tradition.
The Res is a beautiful 23-acre nature center surrounded by woods and wildlife. The peaceful setting offers plenty of space to relax, explore, and deepen connections with one another.
Programming begins at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday and continues through 3:00 p.m. on Sunday. You are welcome to come and go as your schedule allows. Participate in as many activities as you’d like or simply enjoy time in nature.
Our community has planned a wide variety of activities throughout the weekend. You can join a nature walk, try journaling, or learn about solar cooking. Other sessions include crocheting, paper boat making, and a community book exchange. There will also be Tai Chi, scavenger hunts, and opportunities to experience rituals led by Pagan and Indigenous members of our community. On Saturday evening, we’ll gather around the campfire for singing and s’mores.
Our regular 10:30 a.m. Sunday Service will take place at The Res instead of at UUSB. We are especially excited that this will be one of Rev. Jenn’s first opportunities to worship with us in this unique setting as she leads Sunday’s service. If you cannot attend in person, the service will still be available through our usual Sunday Service Zoom channel.
Meals are included with your registration. A water refill station will be available throughout the weekend, so be sure to bring a reusable water bottle.
If you’d like to stay overnight, you can choose between tent camping or sleeping in the climate-controlled Lion’s Den, which has bunk beds.

Please register in advance so we can prepare meals and sleeping arrangements.
You can register by completing our online registration form, which includes an option to pay electronically. You can also register in person after Sunday Service beginning July 26.
Tickets are $5 per person per day, with a maximum cost of $20 per family for the entire weekend.
We believe everyone should be able to participate in the life of our congregation. If the registration fee would create a hardship, please contact Kathy Platt to make confidential arrangements.
We hope you’ll join us for a weekend of fellowship, reflection, and fun. Whether you come for a few hours or stay the whole weekend, the Annual Retreat is a wonderful opportunity to strengthen our community while enjoying one of the area’s hidden natural treasures.
