On Sunday, February 23rd, South Bend Unitarian Church will welcome Nimbi Cushing and Marty Wolfson as our guest speakers. They will present a message on the work of the South Bend Reparations Working Group, whose mission is to advocate for reparations at the local, state, and federal levels as a way of acknowledging and repairing the harm caused by historic and ongoing injustices experienced by African American descendants of slavery. MartyWolfson, Professor Emeritus of Economics at Notre Dame and former Director of the Higgins Labor Program, has spent much of his career advocating for worker rights. Nimbi Cushing is a passionate human rights advocate who shares her experiences growing up Black and poor in the South and the urgent need to balance the scales of justice for the descendants of enslaved people in America. She is also the author of Come with Me and They Walked with Me, books that chronicle her journey of resilience in the face of poverty and racism. Their talk will last about 20 minutes, followed by a question-and-answer session. We invite you to join us for this important conversation. Jim McConnell. Minister of the Berrien Unitarian Universalist Fellowship will bring the Children’s Message that day.
This service will be multiplatform–we’ll gather in person and online. See the tab “Zoom links” above for how to join us for First Zuumitarian.
