Fat Tire Snow Biking at Love Creek County Park, Saturday, January 29, 1:00 pm. Limit: 4 people at a time. Rent and ride a fat-tire bike on a 3.5-mile loop of groomed snow. If you are interested, let Michael Coppedge know ASAP by email to Coppedge.1@nd.edu or an evening phone call to (574) 274-7565 so he can reserve a bike for you. The plan is to meet at the park (9292 Huckleberry Road, Berrien Center, MI 49102). The cost is park admission ($5 per car for non-residents, $3 for residents) and bike rental ($15 for 1 hour, $25 for 2 hours).
Milky Way Viewing at the T.K. Lawless Co. Park, the first Friday or Saturday in February, March, or April, depending on cloud cover. Host: Joseph Gress. Dr. T.K. Lawless County Park has been designated an International Dark Sky Park by the International Dark Sky Association, making it one of only two located in the state of Michigan. It’s about a one-hour drive from South Bend. Express your interest by email to Coppedge.1@nd.edu or evening phone call to (574) 274-7565. We’ll monitor weather conditions and let all interested participants know whether the trip is on a couple of days in advance of Feb 4-5, March 4-5, or April 1-2. Cost to you is $2-$3 per vehicle.
Word Games at Howard Park Fire Pits, Saturday, February 5 at 3:00 pm. Host: Karen Chambers. There are 3 fire pits, each surrounded by 8 Adirondack chairs. First come, first served. Bring a thermos of a hot drink and, if you like, a favorite word game such as Taboo or Catchphrase. Charades is also a possibility! See next week’s Chirp for further details. This is a free event.
